Dunno if the animated series is very well known here in Europe, but it's very successful over there in the US. Which is short for "let's make a movie out of it" for cinema studios.
"The Last Airbender", which is slated for a july 2nd 2010 release, tells the story of a world divided by the four elements, air, wind, earth and fire.
The title character is a young savior, comparable to a young tibetan monk, who possesses superpowers allowing him to “bend” the four elements, earth, water, fire and air, each of which is delegated to a respective tribe/nation, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, let's hope this will be good, as I really appreciated the animated series.
